The first day of racing at Double Lake, where the University of Houston was hosting for the first time at the venue in several years had loads of exciting action.
Kyle Johnson(Texas) won the Men’s A XCTT, but don’t tell that to Shane Haga(Texas A&M). Johnson set the early time to beat with several riders coming and
going, none that could unseat him. Haga, the third to last rider to finish came tantalizingly close, just a half a second off the win. Haga however would have his day as well. The A field lined up for 40 minutes of short track and after three laps of the .8 mile track, Haga was off the front alone never to be seen again.
Only a late charge by runner up Texas State rider Austin Stewart came close to unseating the younger of the Haga Brothers.
Tomorrow sees the cross country races in what should be an exciting finale to the weekend.
