2011 Track Season

Announcing the 2011 track season, with two races in Houston and a race in Frisco, this season will be the biggest track season in the country.*

2011 National Championships

Any category A riders that are interested in competing in the 2011 Collegiate National Championships should contact Matthew ASAP for information concerning qualifications and such.

In Division 1 as conference champions Midwestern State is allocated 6 of the 13 road race start spots and 4 of the 10 crit start spots. Jason Short (Midwestern St) as champion is guarantied a start as well, but as he is on a qualifying team, his “at large” spot is sent back to the conference but Jason will be recieving the conference “call up” at nationals. As the SCCCC criterium champion, Cody Foster (Texas A&M) is granted an automatic starting spot in the national championship criterium.

So, I have 6 road race starting spots and 3 criterium starting spots up for grabs. Based on conference standings, this list will be used to determine (based on who requests spots).

Shane Haga, Cody Foster (qualified for crit), Kyle Johnson, Greg Hercules, Andrew Erickson, Andrew Carlberg, Sean Kearns, Joseph Tokarski, Ben Davis, Brennan Percy, Michael Carey, Kevin Lovelace and Izzy.

From the Collegiate National Director

I’d like to ask a very simple task of one person from each conference; please pass this on to all your teammates.

 

Every Monday for the remainder of the road season, I’d like to post a summary of the racing action in each conference, wherein a summary is defined as ONE paragraph briefly describing the past weekend’s event with minimal detail (similar to our weekly Development Wrap: http://www.usacycling.org/news/user/story.php?id=6006) and ONE photo. Two reasons I’m asking for just one paragraph:

 

1.     Cross-conference interest: Very few people have the spare time or interest to invest in reading full-on race reports from other conferences. They will read the blogs and reports of their friends and fellow ___CCC racers, but will most likely only skim the reports from other conferences.

 

2.     Ease and Promptness: It typically takes a day or two to get a full article together with photos, etc., but this is something you can spit out on a smartphone on the ride home or on the trainer while you cool down after a crit. At most, just 15 minutes on your computer when you get home and it’s done.

 

What’s in it for you?

 

1.     Your byline on usacycling.org (i.e. eternal fame and glory)

2.     Some résumé cred

3.     The warm and fuzzy feeling you’ll get from helping grow collegiate cycling

4. If you don’t have a full non-collegiate USA Cycling license yet, we will give you one for free. How ‘bout that?

 

I believe both Velonews and Collegiate Cycling News are still looking for contributors from each of your conferences, as well, so if you end up writing race reports for those organizations, as well, we would link from your paragraph to the full race report on those sites, as well .

Conversation this conference director had with an Aggie over the weekend.

Saturday – Me: “You gonna be okay, how’s your shoulder”
Aggie: “It’s okay, I think it’s separated, I’m going to the hospital”

Sunday – Me: “Wow, they really fixed you up huh, so what’s up”
Aggie “Broken collarbone, two fractured wrists and a contusion on my head, they did a CT scan”
Me: “Wow”
Aggie: “Yeah”

LSU Invitational

LSU is set for an epic event this weekend, starting with a team time trial on the Mississippi River Saturday morning, that will be followed by an on campus criterium in front of the LSU War Memorial Tower. The action on campus will be hot and fast, as the mid afternoon humidity of southern Louisiana and heat will build up on the riders.
